“Virtually nothing is impossible in this world if you just put your mind to it and maintain a positive attitude”, this line defines my life’s mantra which I truly swear by! And this got ingrained after what I thought was a colossal failure. Post my school I missed out on admissions to IIT and had to settle for a state engineering College. This threw a spanner into my future ambitions, and I was extremely dejected. My father sat me down one day and narrated his story of starting from zero in a village to the business he had built sheer out of his ‘never-say-die’ and positive attitude. He told me that there would never be a lack of opportunities for a person who is not afraid to put in the hard work and work without any fear. It truly changed my perspective and made me never consider myself less than anyone no matter what pedigree other person was from! No matter what, I always try to look at the positive aspect of almost any situation. Not many of you will know this, but I am a die-hard fan of happy endings-be it a movie or real life. Funny right?😊
In my very first job as General Trade Area Sales Manager, I was like a young 24 years old managing a team of 15 people, many of whom had experience more than my age! I couldn’t have had an abstract and conceptual conversation with them and won over it. So, analytics became my secret mantra of understanding business and unlocking growth potential. I was suddenly asking all the right questions and pushing in the right places. In no time, I had earned respect from the team as a young manager who knew his stuff and established myself. I kind of feel good that I didn’t give up on challenges and today my experiences both good, as well as bad, have made me more positive towards life.
One thing I’d definitely like to convey through the experiences I’ve had is, Analytics can be useful only if applied “Smartly”. Hence always look for the real story behind the numbers. Analytics will tell you what is hidden, but without a proper “WHY” to it, it is the only partial truth which can be extremely dangerous! If given a chance I would want to use analytics for some social cause. We all are aware of the fact that there is such a humongous disparity in our society and country. If only we are able to combine the already available intelligence using analytics and mold our policies and priorities of government to address them, it would be so much better. Don’t you think? We all should think about it, right?
I simply adore Sachin Tendulkar, and that’s purely for his attitude and humility. The genius just before his retirement and despite over 2 decades of cricket was the person who practiced the most before every game. Such was his hunger to learn that he was a student of cricket till the day he retired! How can one not be awed by a personality, tell me?
When not immersed in work, I love to play cricket, watch movies, traveling to new places and countries, and one more thing I am learning tennis these days! You can always join me during weekends!
