I was always interested in statistics, and after my schooling, I pursued this for my bachelors at Delhi University. Back then, analytics was considered an academic field and not a value-driven one, so I ended up choosing a post-graduation in Marketing and Customer Behaviour. My passion for stats and maths was evocative, and I decided to pursue Market Research. After three years, I got a big break with GECIS Analytics Centre of Excellence, Bangalore (now Genpact) and this was a dream come true for me. Everything here, the company & the work they were doing: Programming and Statistical modeling excited me and defined my career progression path.
The analytics industry is so fast-paced and compelling. I’m fascinated by how one can predict various possibilities by applying statistical models which yield unimaginable ‘Impactful Insights’ that deliver business impact.
One of the most memorable experiences of working in this industry is when I was posted in Finland for a 6-month project to work with one of the largest banks out there. Among many challenges, I had to overcome the language barrier to understand Finnish, and cull out all possible relevant variables from multi-tech disintegrated, disparate databases and present the impact of the solution on some priorities. I was never used to such freezing cold, and I had to form and lead a multi-national team that I had just met. It was an exciting experience, and I learned a lot from that trip.
I believe that every day is a learning opportunity at work. Given how dynamic the analytics industry is, and it becomes imperative to stay updated by learning new platforms, techniques, languages, and code – anything that helps you sustain creativity as you innovate on creating out-of-the-box solutions.
My word of advice to the young professionals out there is to be hopeful, patient, and positive about the evolving environment we live in. There’s immense power in reading, and I always insist that one must read extensively to stay up-to-date and remain relevant.
My simple policy in life is to live for today. If I’m giving my best shot today, I know that more growth will happen tomorrow. I’m thankful to my GECIS managers who were true champions at work and taught me patience and perseverance.
Outside of work, I am a family man and love spending time with family members on weekends. I love my coffee and am an avid reader. Whether it’s management/analytics related books, case studies, or current affairs, I keep reading up on different things regularly. I’m a passionate believer in the power of working hard – I believe that if you stay committed enough, then you can overcome any curveball that life throws at you.
