I began my career as a computational biologist studying the HIV vaccine, and today, I lead a team of data scientists who work on optimizing the supply chain. It may seem like an entirely different world – from working on antibody research to route optimization, but the truth is, it’s all about data! If people can confidently understand patterns and core algorithms, anyone can be a data scientist and have done it this way, I truly mean it!
When I think of the data deluge, I’m slightly anxious about finding the sweet spot between data sharing and data privacy while also having access to sufficient data to take out insights. If we address that, we’re ready to revel in the AI world, because to me, Artificial Intelligence is basically pattern matching at a scale that humans can’t keep up with; hence we’ve got machines to help out!
