While I seem to be in the thick of analytics action, in reality, I’m actually pretty new to this field. I’m an Engineer, who did a bunch of other things – I worked in finance for a decade, founded a cloud-kitchen start-up when the term ‘cloud kitchen’ wasn’t even a thing, I dabbled in some real estate, and finally, for the last three years, I’ve been exploring the seemingly infinite realm of data science!
I had to shut down my start-up after I ran out of funding money and it was a turning point of sorts for me. I realized that I didn’t want to go back to a job that I wasn’t excited about anymore. So, I went on an exploring spree to find the most exciting jobs out there and landed here. I’d always been a geeky person who found Math quite interesting, and the more I read about data science, the more assured I felt about it.
Moreover, I was also excited to get back to an individual contributor’s role and take a break from all the managerial aspects that come with running your own company. I’d never done programming in life until then, but I was possessed by the idea of data and insights. I browsed through a bunch of online courses and learnt Python and other ML tools.
I’ve always felt that you need a reason to get out of bed, something to challenge you and keep your mind sharp. The routine of work can always become a drudgery, but you have to balance it with the Fun element in all that you do! That’s what kept me trying new things and embarking on new journeys. If there’s one learning I have gained from this field, it’s the fact that you’ve got to get your fundamentals very clear and keep an open mind while interpreting data.
When I’m not innovating or contemplating work, I enjoy spending time with my kids. I also follow Formula One, read sci-fi novels and devour a lot of science content to keep the grey matter going!
